David Neufeld (left), pictured with Nevis Premier Mark Brantley, was recently honored by the Nevis Island Government at the Ministry of Finance’s 40th Anniversary Gala and Awards Ceremony held at the Nevis Four Seasons Resort in November for his significant contributions to the development of Nevis’ International Financial Services Sector. He was presented with the “Leadership in the Financial Services Sector” award in recognition of conceiving of, and creating, the Nevis LLC Ordinance, enacted in 1995 and other legislation and amendments spanning many years.
Since 1988, Neufeld has been considered a pioneer in US domestic and offshore limited liability company law. In 1994, he was hired by the government of the Caribbean Island of Nevis to draft LLC legislation for the island. This ground-breaking ordinance was the first limited liability company legislation outside of the United States modeled on U.S. LLC law. It quickly became, and remains to this day, the most widely used and most highly acclaimed offshore LLC law in the world. The Ministry of Finance recognized Neufeld for his commitment to the Sector over the years, including this significant contribution to the expansion of their offshore products, that also include the top-of-class Nevis Business Corporation Ordinance and Nevis International Exempt Trust Ordinance.
The Nevis Ministry of Finance wrote, "[David's] work has resulted in the advancement of the sector over the years. Its resilience is a testament to [his] ability to forge meaningful partnership with the Nevis Island Administration to capitalize on opportunities for the creation of new products necessary for diversification."
