Overview (Program Summary)

This presentation will focus on the relationship between fracking and pharmaceuticals.  While not well known, the basis for all pharmaceuticals is ethanol.  This is a fossil fuel that comes from the same family as ethane, methane and the other gases released in the hydraulic fracturing process.  When refined, it can be transported to the chemical manufacturers for the production of the drugs that we use to maintain our health and welfare.  Nearly 99% of the pharmaceuticals we use today are based on petrochemicals.  Having this feed stock for pharmaceuticals in the Northeast as opposed to in the Gulf is a huge advantage for our region. Attendees will learn:

  1. What In House Counsel members should know about the petrochemical link to all pharmaceuticals.
  2. How In House Counsel should examine prospective legislation pertaining to the natural gas industry due to its implications on their own businesses.
  3. What In House Counsel should know about how the their businesses will be affected by the future energy cost implications of fracking.
