Alma L. Saravia, shareholder with Flaster Greenberg, was tapped by the Camden County Medical Society to be the guest speaker at their January 3, 2011 board meeting, which took place at the Fox Rehabilitation Center in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Saravia draws on almost 20 years of experience defending physicians before the Board of Examiners and various other governmental agencies.
Saravia gave an update to the physicians on end of life legislation including the recent Physician Order for Life-Sustaining Treatment bill signed to law by Governor Christie, which was enacted to provide that a form may be used to supplement an advanced directive. In addition, she discussed what a physician can do to avoid a medical malpractice claim.
Saravia concentrates her practice in healthcare law. Her clients consist of medical staffs, nursing homes, physicians, nurses, chiropractors, and other medical healthcare providers as well as statewide healthcare organizations including the New Jersey Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She counsels practitioners on licensure and disciplinary matters before the Board of Medical Examiners of which she was a member from 1992 to 1994, as well as other healthcare licensure boards.
