Janet C. Edelstein, an attorney in Flaster Greenberg’s Trusts & Estates Practice Group, was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of BookSmiles, a non-profit organization aimed at giving underserved children in Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs the opportunity to build personal libraries. In this role, Edelstein is responsible for developing and maintaining book acquisition and fundraising in Philadelphia's Pennsylvania suburbs.
Edelstein has been instrumental in building support for BookSmiles’ growing Pennsylvania operations, which will augment the collection and current distribution of approximately 20,000 children’s books per month to book deserts in the metropolitan Philadelphia area. The organization has distributed 350,000 books to underserved children since 2017.
ABOUT BOOKSMILES:
BookSmiles gives underserved children in Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs the opportunity to build personal libraries, starting at infancy. They focus on providing students and younger siblings with high-quality books, thereby laying the groundwork for great literacy skills before and during the elementary school years. They also provide educators, especially those serving Title 1 schools, with unlimited books for their classroom libraries as well as for their students' personal collections.
