Flaster Greenberg is pleased to welcome two law students as summer associates in the firm’s Patent Practice Group which is a part of the Intellectual Property Department. Both summer associates will be headquartered in Philadelphia, PA.
“Gillian Cox and Kent Hess, our 2023 summer associates, showcase incredible talent and drive,” said Michael Piscitelli, chair of Flaster Greenberg’s Intellectual Property Department. “We are excited to offer them this hands-on opportunity to work alongside our team of patent attorneys in a wide range of technologies, and across matters spanning from patent procurement to due diligence and patent litigation.”
Summer Associate Gillian Cox is a 2024 J.D. candidate at University of Georgia after earning her Bachelor of Science degree from University of Richmond in physics. Cox’s law school activities include serving as a member of the Intellectual Property Law Society, Student Bar Association, and First Generation Students Association.
Summer Associate Kent Hess is a 2024 J.D. candidate at George Mason University – Antonin Scalia Law School after earing his Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University in physics. Hess’s law school activities include serving as a member in the Intellectual Property Law Society and Pauline Newman IP American Inn of Court and participating in the 2022 National Patent Application Drafting Competition.
The goal of Flaster Greenberg’s program is to provide summer associates with an opportunity to gain real-world experience working with the firm’s attorneys, staff, and clients, and to get a feel for what it is like as a first-year associate at Flaster Greenberg.
Cox and Hess will gain tangible legal experience while working with shareholders and associates on assignments related to application prep, prosecution in front of the USPTO and foreign patent offices, litigation support, and due diligence projects. They will also receive direct exposure to the legal process by attending the district of Delaware and business meetings that take place throughout the summer. In addition, seminars, luncheons, and outings will offer informal settings to further develop professional and personal ties to the firm and its attorneys.
FLASTER GREENBERG’S INTELLECUTAL PROPERTY DEPARTMENT
Flaster Greenberg recently added three new patent attorneys on the heels of an additional five patent attorneys who started at the firm last Fall. Together, they bring the department’s total number of attorneys to 23 making it the largest department in the firm.
The attorneys, headquartered in Flaster Greenberg’s Philadelphia and New York offices, focus their practices on all aspects of intellectual property rights, including patent prosecution, counseling and opinions, due diligence, post-issuance proceedings, litigation, and licensing. In addition, Flaster Greenberg’s Intellectual Property Department recently earned a Chambers and Partners group ranking for the 16th year in a row.
