Joseph T. McGinnis is an associate in Flaster Greenberg’s Intellectual Property Department and Patent Practice Group. Joseph focuses his practice on prosecuting electrical hardware and software, telecommunications, and mechanical inventions. For example, he works with clients to develop patent strategies for inventions that include wireless communication technology (e.g., 3G, 4G, 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth), networking, electromagnetic devices, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber security, and computer science.
Joseph consults with and advises clients on the filing of applications (e.g., provisional applications, non-provisional applications including national stage applications). He also consults clients to develop strategy to respond to office actions (e.g., continuation/divisional strategies, appeal strategies, Request for Continued Examination). In addition, his experience includes advising clients on how to manage a global patent portfolio, and he regularly works with foreign associates to develop strategies for foreign prosecution.
He also works on matters that include claim charting related to telecommunication (e.g., 3GPP, IEEE 802.11) standards, and drafting and prosecuting claims based on these standards.
Prior to joining the firm, Joseph served as a judicial intern for a U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph F. Saporito, Jr. for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. There, Joseph conducted legal research, reviewed case files, and drafted reports. He also participated in court proceedings that included settlement conferences and pretrial detention hearings.
