Robert E. Gordon is Counsel to the firm and a member of the Intellectual Property Department and Patent Practice Group.
He focuses his practice on patent application preparation, prosecution, and portfolio management. Robert works on matters in a wide variety of technologies, including 5G and 4G wireless communications, Wi-Fi applications, electromagnetics, medical devices, optics, video compression, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. He is skilled at drafting claims to meet clients’ strategic business goals. In addition to his extensive domestic practice, Robert maintains a robust foreign docket and global patent portfolio. He routinely communicates with foreign associates to develop strategies for prosecuting patents all throughout Asia and Europe.
Robert advises clients throughout the entire patent prosecution timeline, from early stages of an invention disclosure, throughout application drafting and filing, and continuing to Office Action responses and the eventual granting of a patent. He advises clients on whether their patent claims apply to various technologies. For example, Robert counsels clients on whether their claims map to a standard including 3GPP and IEEE 802.11 standards.
Robert’s prior experience in practicing intellectual property law includes performing patent searches and offering patentability opinions, conducting patent and trademark research, drafting patent applications, and perusing trademark infringement matters for individual inventors and commercial clients. Robert has worked on patent application with patentable subject matter ranging from sporting goods, exercise machines, moving equipment, transportation devices, and auto parts, as well as inventions for house cleaning products, apparel, home goods, and much more.
Prior to practicing law, Robert was an electrical engineer designing electrical and power supply systems for schools, hospitals, and laboratories.
