Terri Ackerman has extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, including representing policyholders in disputes with their insurance companies connected to a broad spectrum of insurance coverage issues.
In addition, she assists clients in other areas of the law, including airport and aviation law, land use, general commercial litigation, government relations and investigations, regulatory compliance, health law, art law, and more. Terri also provides guidance on state and federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
Terri’s legal background includes service as counsel for litigation, claims management, and litigation management for healthcare systems, medical practices, and hospitals, with a strong emphasis on insurance coverage issues related to the healthcare and medical malpractice sector. She is frequently retained to provide coverage advice and act as coverage counsel for other firms in need of focused insurance coverage assistance in connection with complex cases. Her experience encompasses the litigation and management of high exposure matters across a broad range of areas, including insurance coverage, whistleblower investigations, aviation claims, personal injury claims, and commercial litigation, where she has functioned as defense counsel, plaintiff’s counsel, and in-house counsel.
Terri spent five years as a General Attorney at the Department of Energy (DOE), where she held a Q security clearance. During her tenure, she received an “On The Spot Award” for her leadership in a complex $41 million Contract Disputes Act claim before the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals, and a “Merit Performance Award” for her contributions to the DOE Accident Investigation and Prevention Program. She was nominated for an “Incentive Award” for her support of a regulated program. She worked extensively in the areas of regulatory research and compliance, FOIA, government investigations, and security law, including Insider Threat Prevention.
Prior to joining Flaster Greenberg, Terri held a partnership position at an international Philadelphia law firm, where she was engaged in lengthy secondments with a major American aircraft engine manufacturer and a large health system. There, she also managed a wide array of complex litigation cases involving insurance coverage, healthcare law, aviation law, and commercial litigation. Before that, she served in both plaintiff and defense roles at other prominent law firms.
Terri is a member of the Pennsylvania, Wyoming, and Idaho bars. She earned her law degree from Villanova University School of Law, cum laude, and a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Psychology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude.
